guess what, most employers are going to drop coverage next year because of this. why should they cover employees if they see the gov is going to. duh, my wifes company has already told them they are dropping healthcare as of jan 1st because of all of this. we are fools to think gov can do anything but f it up. many of the companies here are already planning to drop insurance or reduce it drastically. great christmas present you retards in washington. oh yes you guys are not on this plan cowards
THE current bill is not the answer ,,,does not address proper Tort Reform, “undocumented” access for expensive non-life threatening HC , & does not provide MOST IMPORTANTLY an OPT OUT Provision for those that believe it is still too bloated with waste & inefficiencies resulting in inflated premiums not in keeping with services provided.
….A mandate stuffed inside a trojan horse bill for HC is a skunk in the road…too stupid to debate…

You are required to have auto insurance and that wasn’t in the constitution. There are a lot of things we have today that were not in the constitution. The constitution does allow for HC for all if congress votes it in. It’s simply the right thing to do. WWJD?

The confusion here stems from two very different concepts, positive rights and negative rights. Our Constitution generally protects negative rights. It prevents you from being harmed (by the gov’t) when you try to attain something for yourself. A positive right would be something that must be provided to you. In our system, those are limited to the aspects of due process afforded to someone the state is seeking to deprive of life or liberty – trial by jury, counsel, speedy trial, etc…
On the right to health care, it may not be in the constitution as clearly as you’d like it, but the United States Declaration of Independence, which was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, reads:
We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Everyone doesn’t have a RIGHT to healthcare….where is that right in our Constitution…? Where and when did our Founding Fathers even remotely address this right to healthcare? i missed it….

So conservatives accuse us of being Nazis trying to euthanize people. However, they then turn around and deny people medical aid because they are “lazy” or whatever mastubatory excuse they think up. Hmmm kind of sounds like killing off undesirables to me…
The fact of the matter is that people who need healthcare either aren’t covered, or their coverage is more or less USELESS (aka a fraud). This is a RIGHT vs. WRONG issue period.
No one denies that some people have problems accessing health care in the US. The problem is how to solve the problem. Kennedy believed that this problem (as just about every problem he ever encountered except a certain car accident) required greater government involvement. Many others believe just the opposite.
Points taken and agreed. However the elephant in the room remains access to health care. Surely America is not such a selfish country that it believes those without money deserve to die sooner than those with money. Millions are without insurance and these “poor” are not just the “street drunks”. More often they are the working poor, people who, perhaps uneducated, are hard working, work two jobs to get by and often go to the grave before their time. They deserve better.
